Ingredients
- 2 large oranges
- 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
- 1 cup water (240ml)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (2.5ml)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar for coating (optional)
Instructions
- Slice oranges into thin, even rounds. Boil sliced oranges in water for 10 minutes; drain on a rack.
- In a pan, combine sugar, water, and vanilla. Heat until dissolved. Add orange slices, bring to a gentle boil, then reduce to a simmer. Cook for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Transfer slices to a rack to dry for 4 hours.
- Coat with sugar if desired. Allow slices to dry for 24 hours before storing.

Keep simmer gentle to protect the slices.
Add spices like cinnamon, star anise, or cardamom to the syrup.
Store in a cool, dry place layered with parchment if needed.
Fully dried slices last longer.
